While We Were Sleeping

Last night my husband was out at his brother's bachelor party (I think they just went to a bar and got him drunk). So I was home alone with the kids. Dylan fell asleep at his regular time, around 6:30 pm and Elizabeth came to sleep in bed with me when I got tired, so I could sleep even if she didn't want to, but we both ended up asleep rather quickly...

This morning I woke up and found our garbage can like this:

Bob said he thought a bear got into the garbage last night while he was gone.
A BEAR!?!
So, while I was sleeping, and my kids were sleeping, there was a bear in my front yard throwing garbage all over my driveway?

That picture doesn't even show the full arc of garbage all across our driveway. Thank goodness there was only one bag of garbage in there at the time!

This happened just two days after Bob saw a bear in the woods by our house. Did this bear get a whiff of him, think he probably ate pretty well, and follow him home for the discards?

I'm concerned.

Get Louie to catch the bear.

Knowing Louie, he'd probably try!

Ha! Bernie beat me to it. Imagine finding a bear carcass behind your dryer.

A 400-pound black bear behind the dryer I MIGHT notice, if I had already had my coffee that morning.

That is why we are not allowed to leave our garbage cans outside unless they are in a fenced in, locked in enclosures or otherwise bear proof (i.e., very heavy that bears can still get in to). We're not allowed to put our cans out for pickup until after 4 a.m. for that very reason.

That's scary.
