Just had to add that this book does NOT include my favorite book "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" by Thornton Wilder
nor does it include my most HATED book...
"Savage Girl"by Alex Shakar, which I admit is based on interesting ideas, but is executed so freaking poorly it gave me a headache. And I was in data entry when I read it...so....
So I'm totally with you on Memoirs of a Geisha, but I did finish it. I read it while I was studying for the Illinois bar, maybe at that time, anything that wasn't dealing with real property and torts was good enough for me.
The Kite Runner was awesome.
LIfe of Pi, stick with your intention to never read it. I got to about page 25. It was AWFUL. I took it with me to a wedding, where we had to arrive like 5 hours early because David was a groomsman and had to take pictures. The wedding was at a country club. I found it more stimulating to watch the gardeners groom the greens than read that crap book.
I love your comments! Here are my suggested must reads:
Time traveler's Wife - Hard to get into, but very good.
Madame Bovary - The chick lit of the 1800s, weird, but very funny, high drama.
A Confederacy of Dunces - Strange and funny.
+ 2 of my all time favorites - Lonsome Dove (great western! no joke) & Bonfire of the Vanities (Book is MUCH better than the 80's movie...)
Joan
A lot of my favorite books are not on the list, but then again I didn't expect them to be. :-) Still, I've read a good number of them and even really enjoyed some.
IMHO: This list is missing a lot of books that I absolutely love AND some that I may not like as much, but definitely were influential enough to make a Top 100 list, IMO.
Where is the resident librarian on this topic!! Con-tro-ver-sy!
