Peanut, peanut butter and SALMONELLA!

When this story about the salmonella peanut butter came out, I was very worried that I had been causing my childrens' illnesses by feeding them contaminated peanut butter sandwiches.
I read the list of symptoms: fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Check, check, checkity check.

Ah, crap.
Have I been poisoning my kids?

I came home armed with the serial number of the contaminated batch. I checked my cabinets.
The peanut butter jar that we had been eating from was....safe!
However, we DID have a jar of the contaminated batch in the cabinet, at the ready. And we were almost out of the first jar, I could have been feeding the kids salmonella in a few days if I never read that story!

I took the PB back to Walmart and got my $2 back. I wanted my two dollarssssssssssssssss.

I also snapped this pic of the peanut butter shelves at our local Walmart, for news value.

We actually had a half-eaten jar in our house. Plus one at the ready. I tossed them before I realized that a recall meant that I could get my money back. *sigh*

And Chris had been having some issues, so I wonder if ours was tainted.

Our shelves look like that as well. It's kind of freaky, actually. I almost blogged about it myself last week...

Oh where, oh where has my Pee Bee gone? Oh where, oh where can it beeeeeeeeeeeeee?

The shelves scared me. But I still bought a jar of Jif. I ate some this morning.
I'm still OK. So far....

Meh. Yeah, I got a head's up on this initially by my friend and co-worker, Hunter. He's an EMT in his spare time, so he's always up on the latest and greatest health risks and pandemics.

Oh! Did you hear about the Oscar Meyer/Louis Rich recall of chicken breast strips last week? We go to the food store Friday night and there on the shelves are the recalled items. And next to them are a non-recalled brand, complete with a clearance sticker! How can non-contaiminated food with a week before its expiration date be on clearance, and the stuff that was recalled two days earlier still be out at full price! I was going to take the recalled ones and ask if I could have them for free, but DAvid wouldn't let me.

Ew! Why oh why would you want listeria strips?
You couldn't eat them! You WOULDN'T eat them, WOULD YOU?

Of course I would! Well, I'm not sure. Thankfully, David was there so we'll never find out.

I wonder what listeria tastes like...if it's like lemon pepper, I might eat it too...
