To sing, or not to sing?

Ugh.
I'm not sure yet.
Tomorrow night I am supposed to be one of the finalists in the White Mountain Idol karaoke competition.
I won my spot a LOOOOONG time ago, before I found out I was pregnant even. I think RIGHT before actually.
Now I am 15.5 weeks pregnant and not really feeling up to hanging out at the Black Bull all night, drinking club soda and singing sober karaoke!! Eek!
Add to that the fact that I'm finally starting to look pregnant, or at least fatter than usual. And I'm not getting "fatter" it's just my growing huge uterus. Do I really want to explain that 100 times?
I don't know. I really don't care about the stupid contest. I quit the last time, I had no choice really. I was going out of town right in the middle of the dang finals.
I had to quit.
I could have been a contender! :)
Am I 2 Legit 2 Quit? Or should I just bag it and stay home, watch The Office and call it a night?
I'm really leaning toward staying home....I'm such a hermit.

Well, without knowing the prize - other than shame & glory - it's hard to effectively analyze whether you should bail. But, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do it for me. See, in 5th grade we had pod wide auditions (don't ask about the pod thing) to have a solo in spring program. We were singing "That's what friends are for." Four people were going to be spotlighted, I don't know why. Anyway, after round 1 I was one of the finalists, and Petra Rubio (22 years later I cannot forget her name!) said to me, "I wouldn't have chosen you, I could barely hear you sing." So I dropped out of the finals, had to just sing back up chorus, and have regretted - and hated! - Petra ever since. You must avenge me!

Oh Amy!
I have one of those girls in my past too...
Damn that Jessi Raychek. THAT'S RIGHT!
Except it wasn't choir, it was a play...Macbeth.
I soooo wanted to play Lady Macbeth, but JESSI FREAKING RAYCHEK got the part, and she sucked!
I ended up being a servant.

Years later I found out that while I was in college she worked at Kinko's, and I kind of felt better about the whole thing.

Oh, the prize for the winner is $1,000.

stay home! preggos can do whatever they want! :)

$1,000, you so have to go. Don't you have a shirt that says something like "bun in the oven" so people will know you're pregnant? It'll have to help.

Ack! I also got beat of playing Mary in our church Christmas Eve play, but I don't remember the girl's name. Instead, I remember Mrs. Turner, the teacher who said, "You'd be much better as Mary because I know you'll learn your lines, but [stupid girl who got to be Mary] is a friend of the family and I have to pick her." Politics in the Catholic Church, heresy!

I don't have ANY of those cute cheeky preggo shirts!
I'm so lame!

Don't be mad, but I DID get to play Mary in our church preschool play. I have pics somewhere. I was a great Mary. A proud Mary. :)

Well, since I am not in it this time you have a chance to win! LOL Just kidding :)

I think you should do what you want to... if you do go you have to tell me so I can meet you there!! I dont want to miss this!!

You must go! Get a cute T-shirt like Amy said and sing your little heart out. Or make one - you're crafty. If you win you can buy a whole maternity wardrobe or anything else your heart desires. And you'll have bragging rights for the rest of your life! The rest of your life.

Jessica said...

ALRIGHT! I'll go!
Geez!
I'll do it for Amy's vengeance, lifetime bragging rights and of course, the $1,000.
It's gonna take me forever just to make it to the $1,000 finals though. Here's hoping!

Christina - you're gonna meet me there right? Right!?!?
We can have diet cokes together, or whatever. :)

Glad I'm not too late to cheer you on! Go, girl! Go buy yourself a freaking "I'm monstrously preggo" shirt before you go. If you win the $1K, you can consider it a small investment toward the cause.

Sadly, my extreme tiredness and total lack of motivation got the best of me and I won't be going tonight.
I'm just waaaay too exhausted.
Sorry everyone!
I'll get vengeance some other way!

You suck!

Ouch! Not a friendly post! Not to burst your bubble but I worked at Kinko's in 11th grade- I have a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and if you'd like I can help you work through some of this bitterness!! Just kidding! :) That was certainly a long time ago. No one has called me Jessi since 6th grade! Your kids are gorgeous and your daughter looks just like you. How did you end up in Arizona?

Jessica said...

Yikes! The internet caught me being snarky!!

I hope Petra Rubio doesn't Google!

Hi JessiCA!
I moved to Arizona after getting married. My husband grew up here. It's waaay different then California. Way different.

And to be fair, you actually didn't suck at all. I'm just horribly bitter and crippled by my jealousy!
I hope you'll keep reading my blog! Are you still in Simi? Not too many people are. Too expensive.

How do you like Arizona? I'm in Santa Monica- I went to UCLA undergrad and Pepperdine for grad school so I've been in this area for more than 10 years now.

Interestingly, a few months ago my dad found a box of old home movies and Macbeth was on there! It was pretty funny. We were all very earnest. :) I think Stephen Hopkins had a pretty bad cold and all the boys had really high voices. My shawl got caught on a chair at some point too and I had to drag it around until I could yank it off. :)

Your blog is hilarious! I read a little bit and thoroughly enjoyed myself! Your writing reads like you do it for a living.

My blog is dedicated to my dog. :)You have to take pictures of something if you don't have kids!

Jessica said...

Your blog, and dog, are both very cute!! We used to have a tiny dog. He didn't fare so well. That's another story for another day.

I used to be a writer for a living. Newspaper reporter. But now I just mother. Whoo. No, it's fun. It's definitely the most important job I've ever had, if not the most thrilling day to day!
Though, some of the regular ho hum stories on here, particularly the ones involving snakes and mice, are quite thrilling! :)

Jessica said...

I'm sorry about your little doggy! Pixie had a sister named Puffy and in March she was killed by a Pit Bull in front of my face. It was very traumatic- it is never fun to lose a little family member!

It is definitely obvious that you wrote for a living- your blogs have a very readable and charming appeal. Rather 'Bridget Jones in the next phase of her life'-esque!

Jessica said...

Twasn't a pit bull that did in my Sawyer, but rather a speeder.
I'm still quite sad.
My daughter still talks about him all the time. "Don't you miss Sawyer? I do!"
I do too.

PS. V. nice to have you with the blogfriends.
PPS. V. v. nice to know you don't work at Kinkos anymore! :)
